SafeHaven only lists places where animals truly get to live and die in peace — no petting zoos, no tourist attractions.
Our criteria
✓
No breeding — animals are rescued, not produced.
✓
No buying or selling of animals.
✓
Lifelong care until a natural death.
✓
If visits are allowed: distance only, no touching, no “encounters”, no rides.
✓
Non-profit / foundation, transparently funded.
Two tiers
✓ Verified = GFAS-accredited/verified, or a publicly stated no-breeding / no-contact ethos. check yourself = from reputable directories, but not (yet) individually confirmed. Please look into it before visiting.
The gold standard
The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) accredits 200+ real sanctuaries worldwide. Their directory is the best independent source.
